Playable lead
Dylan Faden

Dylan Faden is the only playable character in CONTROL Resonant, and every trailer Remedy posted for the sequel puts him in the warped street, not Jesse. After years as a Federal Bureau of Control captive he is sent into a warped Manhattan crisis, not back into the Oldest House as a second Jesse campaign. Steam story copy puts three jobs on him at once: master new powers, search for his sister Jesse Faden, and keep his humanity while a cosmic entity rewrites the city. Remedy's June 2026 Steam news is the line that locks the roster — Dylan, not a rotating party, not a Jesse swap. First hours on the street start from that premise, then the Aberrant, then the Bureau context you actually need.
He is the playable lead after years of FBC confinement. No other player character is named for this sequel.
Jesse is FBC Director and Dylan's sister. Official copy has you looking for her while Manhattan comes apart.
Threats have spilled beyond the Oldest House. Gravity-warped streets, the Hiss, the Mold, and a cosmic entity are the opening conditions.
The only playable character
CONTROL made Jesse Faden the Director inside the Oldest House. CONTROL Resonant does not put you back in her shoes. Steam news on the September 24 date post states Dylan is the only playable character, and the store page builds the entire sequel around his exit from confinement. That matters for how you read trailers: if you see Jesse, she is Director and missing family, not a second campaign you will unlock by finishing Dylan's run.
Dylan's resume inside the Bureau is captivity, not command. The FBC held him for years after the events players already know from CONTROL. The same institution now sends him into Manhattan because the Oldest House lockdown no longer contains the Hiss and the other threats. The inversion is the sequel's hook: the former prisoner is the field agent, and the Director is the one you cannot reach.
Steam app 3669870 and the June date post agree on that lock. If a trailer still shows Jesse with a Service Weapon, she is Director and missing family, not a second kit you unlock after credits.
Jesse Faden, Director, missing
Official Steam copy names Jesse Faden as FBC Director and Dylan's sister in the same breath as the Manhattan crisis. You are not hunting a side NPC with a Bureau lanyard. You are hunting the person who ran the Oldest House while you were locked under it. Meet the Cast and the story trailer are the official faces for that relationship; they do not replace a full 2019 plot dump, and they do not include a numbered quest list.
Treat Jesse as a live objective, not as co-op. The game's published materials never offer her as a second playable kit. If you need Oldest House vocabulary before the street drop — Altered Items, the Hiss invasion, the Director's burden — read the FBC page and watch Previously on CONTROL. Then come back to Dylan's kit: the Aberrant, Talents, Artifacts, and the Gap.
The FBC title is hers. The confinement years are his. CONTROL Resonant starts after that split, with Manhattan already leaking Hiss and Mold while the Director cannot be reached from the street.
Powers, the Aberrant, and staying human
Steam combat copy pairs Dylan with the Aberrant and with elemental abilities that use the warped environment. The hammer form is for bone-crunching blows; the dual-wielded blades are for swift precision. Resonants are named as the biggest, toughest enemies he faces while saving Manhattan. None of that is a stat block. It is the loadout the store and gameplay posts actually published before launch.
Progression sits on Talents, Artifacts, and the Gap — a dreamlike space tied to Dylan's psyche where Untapped Artifacts are crafted. New Game+ later carries Aberrant upgrades, abilities, Talents, Artifacts, and health upgrades into a second run, then adds a fourth Artifact slot. Assist Mode is the other Dylan-facing system: independent sliders for incoming damage, dodge windows, and even immortality, with trophies left ungated. Configure those before a Resonant fight, not after you already bounced off it.
Talents and Artifacts attach after those opening fights. The Gap crafts Untapped pieces. Assist Mode can widen a dodge or drop incoming damage without locking trophies, which is the published way to survive a Resonant before the kit is deep.
What first hours actually include
No official numbered mission list exists for CONTROL Resonant. Walkthrough sites have started mapping zones and opening beats, but those maps are observer notes, not a Bureau briefing. The verified first-hours sequence is short on purpose: you are Dylan, Jesse is missing, Manhattan is the crisis, the Aberrant is in your hands. Anything beyond that — sensor pylons, named districts, a thirty-step extract — is someone else's walkthrough, not a verified Bureau beat.
Use the story trailer and Meet the Cast for tone, then jump to the Aberrant comparison, the Manhattan gravity notes, and Assist Mode if the opening fights feel wrong. Steam pre-load starts 24 hours before September 24 from 7 AM PT; if you are still reading this on launch morning, that window is the practical first hour, not a hidden prologue inside the Oldest House.
Sensor pylons, named districts, and a thirty-step extract belong to observer walkthroughs. The verified brief stays Dylan, Jesse missing, Manhattan in crisis, Aberrant in hand, pre-load from 7 AM PT on September 23.
Powers versus staying human
Steam story copy makes 'keep his humanity' a listed job, not a flavor line. Dylan left FBC confinement with new powers and a city that wants to overwrite him. The cosmic entity rewriting reality is the pressure; the Hiss and the Mold are the street symptoms. The Aberrant is how he hits back without turning the sequel into another gun-forward CONTROL clone.
Assist Mode's Immortality and Incoming Damage sliders exist because that pressure can be tuned without voiding trophies. They do not delete the humanity beat from the story copy. If you came from Jesse's Director fantasy, Dylan's published fantasy is messier: former captive, missing sister, melee weapon, city folding under his feet. The three-item checklist at the top is the whole verified opening brief.
Steam lists keep-his-humanity beside master-new-powers and find-Jesse. The cosmic entity rewriting reality is the pressure behind those three jobs, with chaotic Hiss and the Mold as the street symptoms Dylan actually hits.
